WANDER FROM HOME: LOCAL LIFE AT A MARKET IN LISBON
Feira da Ladra flea market is a perfect spot to pick up a souvenir, an ancient camera or cd player, or just enjoy the lively street vibes. Best of all, you’ll probably be the only tourist!
Stop for coffee at Copenhagen Coffee Lab, where they do coffee right, with pour overs, chem-ex, beakers and bunsen burners and the whole sha-bang.
Tourists are few and far between, offering you the purest “local experience” you could ask for.
We walked around here for hours, collecting small souvenirs we could fit in our bag, trying street food, admiring the art and hand crafted items sold by the vendors and exchanging “Olá’s” with the sellers and fellow patrons.
I can still remember that beautiful, familiar murmur of a market cascading off the classical architecture, the breeze off the bay of Lisbon, and that sunshine — this was a perfect day.
