Ethical and Sustainable Travel

The world has so much to offer. Experiences. Wanderlust. Dreams come true. But the world also needs us. We have a higher calling as travelers to give back to the places we visit, the communities we get to know, the people who make the world go, and mother nature.

We’re committed to giving back, reducing harm, and leaving the places we visit better than we found them. And we’re passionate about helping the planet – nature, wildlife, people, communities, neighborhoods.

If you share our same values and want to know more about how you can travel the world more sustainably, follow along. We’ll be providing tips and strategies to live the true sustainable travel lifestyle. We’ll be sharing stories about the people and places working to make our destinations better places. And we’ll always be learning. We invite you to share your ideas and ways to practice better sustainability.

Our Mission

We’re here to travel the world ethically and to prove that sustainable travel can be done, even on a budget. Here are dedicated goals when traveling that we hope you will join us in:

    • Avoid Extraction Tourism – extraction tourism is when tourism harms the places visited, or the local people in the community. This harm could be through commercialism, environmental or infrastructural destruction, or displacing people from their homes or small businesses. Often extraction tourism occurs without the travelers knowledge that their presence harmed the place they visited. We do our best to avoid extraction tourism hotspots, to always book and buy locally, and to research before visiting to make sure there was no harm done in order for the experience or activity to occur.
  • Shop Small and Diverse – We invest our travel moneys in small businesses, whether it be restaurants, shops, bars or hotels. We seek out women-owned and people of color-owned businesses to support.
  • Help the Planet – We travel by train or walk whenever we can, seekout low carbon footprint activities and modes of transportation and support or volunteer for organizations working to protect and clean up the environment.
  • Give Back – We support, volunteer, or donate to local causes at every single place we visit. We seek to help the communities we visit in whatever way we can, whether it’s volunteering or donating to organizations that support underserved communities. We also look for businesses who are doing good for their communities, such as the not-for-profit coffee shop in Denver that helps struggling people out of poverty and those in the justice system get back on their feet.
  • Preventing COVID-19 – the covid pandemic isn’t over. It’s still a threat to your health and safety in 2024. And with that means it’s still a threat to the people in any potential travel destination. We believe that exposing locals within communities to potential threats, including infectious disease, is not ethical nor does it live up to the principles of sustainable travel in any way. That means we travel mindfully in order make as certain as possible we don’t spread disease within communities we visit. We monitor local trends of our current location and destinations, wear masks when we travel or move about indoor spaces, test frequently and avoid crowds. We are truly COVID-cautious travelers and will remain so until the data shows that it is empiracally safe to no longer do so. We strongly encourage you to do the same.
