Miami tends to be warm all year with average temperatures from 60’s up to 90’s.
The winter is more comfortable with great temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s and nighttime temperatures around 60 degrees.
The summer months are much hotter and very humid with temperatures 88 to 90 degrees and have more rain as well, although the rain tends to be short.
Regardless of the season, it will be warm either way so be sure to back clothing with lightweight fabrics, bright patterns if you want to match the Miami aesthetics, and a rain jacket if you travel during the rainy season.
Be thinking about what activities you will be doing on your trip to Miami. Are you going to be laying on the beach the majority of your trip? Are you going to be doing any hiking?
For lots of beaching, be sure to pack a couple of swimsuits, cover ups, sunscreen, sunglasses and towels.
For hiking be sure to pack shoes with great traction, bug spray, and airy clothing,
For day time exploring that could let into nighttime mojitos wear versatile clothing. I recommend wearing dresses or shorts with a dressy airy top that can easily transition from day to night.
For the airport, I usually love to wear a comfortable t-shirt, cute joggers, and a sweatshirt. I love the joggers, they look nice while also being so comfortable for long travel days.
Then, when I get to Miami, I will change clothes. Be sure to pack your change of clothes somewhere you can easily find them in case you can not check in to your accommodation yet.
You can also dress up and be ready to go. This is a great option if you have a short trip.
*Most accommodations will have a place to store your luggage and a bathroom to change and freshen up so you can hit the ground running! 🏃♀️
Don’t forget your favorite books or magazines! Headphones are a must for podcasts and music while sunning on the beach. If you are looking for some great travel magazines, Afar, Travel and Leisure and Condé Naste are some of my favorites.
For a long weekend in Miami, 2-4 dresses should be a perfect amount. I wore some of my dresses during the day and into the night. So depending on how many outfit changes you want you may pack a couple more. I found the dresses to be cool to wear in the heat while also being stylish. Most of my dresses are from Marine Layer and ModCloth.
I packed 1-2 pairs of white or jean shorts and 1-2 athletic shorts for hiking/working out, pajamas, or beach wear depending on what you plan on doing.
I brought two cute tops with me on my weekend in Miami. This will vary depending on if you lean towards dresses when out and about or if you are not a dress girl, then obviously you will be packing a few more tops and shorts. I also packed two comfy shirts for the airplane and pajamas.
You are in Miami and the beaches and ocean is just gorgeous! Teal waters and soft sand beaches. It is the perfect place to set up for the day. Some beach essentials must be included in your Miami Packing List. I recommend including a cute swimsuit (I love Aerie and Marine Layer for swimwear) and cover ups are a must too so you can easily hop into the stunning clear waters.
You don’t want to fry, so be sure to lather up in sunscreen! Sun Bum is my favorite sunscreen because it is both great for my skin and won’t harm the coral reefs. Sun Bum also has hair lightening spray that I love for blondes. Additionally, the Sun Bum lip balm is a must! After getting my lips bloated and burnt in past beach vacations, I always use this and it has a great banana flavor as well.
Neutrogena also offers great products to defend against UV rays, with specific face sunscreen that is also coral reef-safe.
Accessories are the perfect way to dress up any outfit and offer a clever way to make the same pieces of clothing look like a new outfit. Accessories are usually small as well making them super easy to stuff into your carryon.
Pack a travel jewelry organizer to avoid the tangled up mess of necklaces. This way you can have tons of options to beautify and class up your outfits.
Purses, bags, fanny packs. I usually pack at least one fanny pack to hold my essentials to easily assess them when I’m walking about.
I carry a small backpack that is cute enough to use both during the day and night. This is also perfect for wandering around markets and storing your new treasures.
I also carry one or two purses on a trip. Try to bring a purse that has a zipper to help avoid any theft and keep everything safe. In your purse be sure to use a travel safe wallet that prevents your credit cards being scanned as you walk around. This is my favorite theft free travel wallet.
Miami is hot hot hot so be sure to pack light weight soft pj’s. I also usually pack a sweatshirt and sweatpants in case the accommodation is very air conditioned. Soma is my favorite pajama place- they are luxuriously soft and have fun patterns. Be sure to shop the sales. Aerie is also another favorite for lounge wear.
Be sure to wear shoes that are both comfortable and cute! Or just comfortable- after all comfort it the most important thing. I packed a pair of sandals, workout shoes, and classic keds. I am a huge fan of Keds, they are comfortable, cute, and versatile. I love Tevas for my sandals, they can be dressed up and down and are so great for a day of walking in comfort.
You will need all the essentials to make sure all your tech stays functioning when out and about. Don’t forgot all your chargers. Be sure to pack a charger in your bag to charge when on the plane, car, or out in about.
No outlet to plug into when out exploring? No Problem! Portable chargers are a MUST. As a woman this is honestly a huge safety concern as well. I never want to be in an unfamiliar place without my phone to use for directions, ride share, or to get help. You can avoid never putting yourself in that situation with a portable charger. This one is a great choice! Be sure to charge up your portable charger when you are back at your accommodations at night. You can easily keep this in your purse, bag, fanny pack and so on.
While in sunny and colorful Miami, you will want to take a ton of pictures to remember all your good times! Some essentials I take are a portable tripod and a selfie stick. Yes both may seem very dorky but can be a lifesaver when you can’t find someone to take a picture or if you want lots of pictures.
This tripod is my favorite! It is great because you can easily stand it somewhere on it’s own to take a series of pictures or you can even wrap it around something for a better angle. This has been a lifesaver when we are in places where there are no flat surfaces at the right height and even when hiking we have wrapped it around a tree before.
We also love the selfie stick for quick and easy pictures. If you hold the selfie stick down you can’t even tell it’s a selfie. We have gotten tons of great pictures this way!
Both of these are musts depending on what kind of picture you want or the setting you are at. We usually carry both with us on a day out exploring.
Another great addition is a polaroid camera to take adorable polaroids to remember your trip. There are even polaroid frames to keep them in when you get home.
Be sure to pack all your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, luffa, razors, deodorant, makeup, travel brush, makeup remover, tooth brush and tooth brush case, floss, flat iron/curling iron, travel blow dryer (LOVE this) and dry shampoo. If you are flying, make sure they are all within 3.4 oz. I love to take my own toiletry travel containers, here are some great options! If you are staying at a hostel a shower caddy that is collapsible is a great idea.
When packing for your long weekend in Miami pick items that are versatile, lightweight, and comfortable. Try to think through what your days in Miami look like- what are you doing, what is the weather like, and what would you be wearing. Eliminate as much as you can to avoid overpacking when thinking of what to include in your Miami Packing List.
Above all, pick items that will make you feel happy and beautiful! Enjoy your long weekend in Miami!
Happy Packing!
