You know the place. There’s always a line out the door. And yet it seems hidden.
Inconspicuous. A secret that everyone’s in on. Time for you to be in on it too.
In Boston’s storied China Town, there’s a little hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant that’s so good, I once ate there 3 times on one trip. Don’t be fooled. This isn’t a tourist trap. It’s the real deal.
Picture it now: you’re ushered to your table in short order. Before you process the expansive menu that represents all of China’s amazing food regions, you’ve got an imported beer bottle sweating on the table. Sweating like you will be after the spices and chillies that fill the air make it to a plate in front of you.
The energy from the kitchen migrates to your table. You can sense the love and attention to detail in the food before you’ve even ordered.
Once you pick something — anything — it isn’t pretty. There’s no prize for plating and presentation. You don’t need it. In fact, you want the mess. You want the disorientation of not really knowing what’s what or how to eat it.
The dumplings and the sauce are otherworldly, but it’s that szechuan chicken dish that sends you into sensory overload.
How can something taste so good? How can it make me feel this good? Hell, maybe I’m the only one that gets off on eating at Gourmet Dumpling House like this…. But I highly doubt it.
